FAQ’S

How does the Hawaiian Ultraviolet lighting disinfection system work?

All our Hawaiian Ultraviolet Disinfecting Lighting products, powered by Violet Defense™ technology, represent a significant breakthrough in viral and germicidal protection for wherever people gather. PURO™ Lighting uses a powerful, broad-spectrum light, including germicidal UV-C, UV-B and anti-bacterial UV-A to optimize their germ-killing efficiency on both surfaces and airborne particles.

Specifically, UV-C has the ability to kill bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungus.

UV-A and UV-B light induces oxidation of proteins and lipids causing cell death.

Broadband UV lamps have also been shown to inhibit photo-reactivation, the process that can result in self-repair of damaged microbes. Utilizing the full spectrum of UV light (UV-A, UV-B and UV-C) destroys the DNA, RNA and cell wall of the pathogen, rendering it unable to reproduce.

How do I know if Hawaiian Ultraviolet lighting disinfection products fits our company or industry needs?

Our products are intended to be used in places wherever people gather. Among many industries, our right-sized units work perfectly inside hospitals, nursing homes, schools, cruise ships, grocery stores, restaurants, food service industries, large and small retail shops, hotels, mass transit, commercial office spaces and more.

Which viruses, bacteria and pathogens do Hawaiian Ultraviolet lighting products kill?

Independent clinical testing confirms Hawaiian Ultraviolet Lighting disinfection of viruses, bacteria, and fungal pathogens. Our UV disinfection lights, powered by Violet DefenseTM technology, have been proven to rapidly kill up to 99.9% of Norovirus, C. diff, E. coli, Salmonella, MRSA, and C. auris. Per the EPA emerging pathogen guidelines and based on clinical testing completed, our UV lights have efficacy against Class 2 and 3 viruses, including coronaviruses, SARS, Influenza and Ebola.

Do we need to have special staff training to use your UV disinfection lighting?

While operating our units is not difficult, we recommend staff be trained prior to operation. Training will include instruction around safety measures as well as how to position our Sentry mobile units inside the room you are disinfecting.

Do Hawaiian Ultraviolet products require assembly, or can we start using them right out of the box?

Our Helo fixtures come fully assembled and are easily installable by trained electricians. There are a variety of installation methods including pendant hanging, wall, and in-ceiling mounting. Our portable Sentry units come with detailed assembly instructions in the user manual for the base stands that allow Sentry units to be moved to wherever they are needed.

Is your product harmful to people or animals?

Hawaiian Ultraviolet Disinfection Lighting units are designed to produce enough energy to kill single celled organisms, so incidental exposure by humans would be similar to being out in the sun. OSHA, as well as safety certification standards, however, do have regulations about exposure to UV light and bright flashes, so our units have “motion detection” technology to ensure that unit operation stops when people or animals are present.

What happens if someone walks into the area during the disinfection process?

Our units have a military-grade PIR vacancy sensor that will stop the unit from operating. The unit will resume its scheduled cycle where it left off when no occupancy is detected. In other words, a 30-minute cycle, being interrupted for 10 minutes through the cycle, will finish the remaining 20 minutes once occupancy is no longer detected.

Can I look directly at the disinfection light through a window?

First, it’s strongly recommended that you not look directly into our Hawaiian Ultraviolet Lighting units, or any other UV light. Additionally, as most types of glass are UV reflective, UV rays will not typically pass through, so you can stand outside the window and not be exposed to UV rays emitted by the unit.

How long does Hawaiian Ultraviolet Lighting UV disinfection take?

Our Hawaiian Ultraviolet products are designed to run in 15- or 30-minute increments but can be scheduled to run multiple cycles per day depending on your specific need and disinfection rates. We’ll help you determine the right cycle for your needs.

How long does Hawaiian Ultraviolet Lighting UV disinfection last?

We recommend disinfection of your space once per day, or more often, depending on the exposure and the kind of facility or area being disinfected. Refer to your user manual with more detailed information.
